Did You Know?

Medicaid is expanding to cover more people. Even if you haven’t been eligible in the past, you may qualify under the new rules. Enrollment for expanded Medicaid begins October 1, with coverage starting as early as January 1, 2014. KY is one state that is opting for this extended benefit for their youth. Not all states have decided to participate in this benefit.

What is
It is an easy way to apply for health insurance. You only need to fill out one application to find out if you can get Medicaid,
KCHIP or other health insurance.

Will I qualify for coverage?
Verification is simple… If you were a foster were a foster child in any state at the age 18, you are entitled to the benefit, all you have to do is check Yes!

What if I am not 18 yet?
For youth not age 18 until after 1/14– they will automatically roll into the benefit at age 18 for continued Medicaid until age 26.

What if I was in care in another state?
If you enter KY from another state and in that state you were in care at age 18, they can access this KY benefit.  The child would be instructed to apply for Medicaid and relay that they are a Former Foster Child making them covered until age 26.

What if I move out of KY, will I still have coverage?
If a child covered under this Medicaid benefit moves from KY, their benefit ceases. If they decide to move back into KY, they are eligible to re-apply for Medicaid again- and by answering the question of being a Former Foster Youth at age 18 they will be covered again until 26.
